where in the world?

image via aaron huey

my husband and i currently live in new york city (queens to be precise). we definitely have a love/hate relationship with the city (love the subway, the diversity, the art, the energy . . . hate the subway, the crowds, the inconsiderate attitude, the cost of living) and have decided that we don't want to live here forever -- although we'll likely still be here for a few more years. while i'm not sure that any other city can compare to NYC for me, i think we both need a slightly smaller city with a slightly slower pace.

so, i figured, why not ask the internet? where should we move to?

considerations:
  • we still want to be in a city . . . maybe just not a city of over 8 million
  • we would love to be able to rent or buy a small house with a yard
  • my husband is a massage therapist, so a place that has a good market for massage therapy is needed
  • i suffer from rheumatoid arthritis, so extreme cold or damp weather is not favorable
  • public transportation is very important to us
  • as is an environmentally friendly community
  • a good arts scene beats a good sports scene for us
  • needs to be dog friendly
  • close to water of some sort
any thoughts or advice?

. . . or maybe we'll just move to brooklyn.

otchipotchi

i love the trend of crocheted covered stones and things. i especially love the ones on resurrection fern. she doesn't seem to have any in stock lately, and i have been contemplating purchasing one of her prints, instead. i guess i could continue to learn how to actually crochet on my own, but my hands aren't always up to the task.

so, when i saw this photo on martha from uniform studio's flickr page, i instantly fell in love with this lovely porcelain stone from otchipotchi. isn't it beautiful? i love how paula took an already great idea and made it her own. and the result is just wonderful.

renegade

the brooklyn renegade craft fair was this past weekend and it was super awesome, as usual. the mister and i got there late in the day, but we still enjoyed it immensely. chris added to his ever expanding t-shirt collection with a stop to supermaggie, we found a christmas gift for my brother, i added to my letterpress card collection (with full intentions to mail out all three of the cards i bought within the next 6 weeks), and we managed to have our photo taken in a photobooth. all in all, a success.

i didn't take a ton of photos, but here are a few peeks from the fair.

chris loved this booth. i think he was kind of sad when he saw that someone had already bought the zelda piece.

so many of the booths had pretty little details, like this.

tons of great ink everywhere. i think next year, we'll just park ourselves on a bench for the day so we can do more people watching & tattoo spotting.

super fun plush toys.

and the completely RAD (& free!) photo booth provided by magnolia photo booth co. with props to boot!

LOST at the vilcek

on friday, my husband and i went up to the vilcek foundation to check out their LOST exhibit. it was SO COOL. it runs through saturday, june 5th. so, if you are in the NYC area and are a LOST fan, get yourself there this week!

the main focus of the exhibit is on the international diversity of the show's cast, crew and production staff. it really is amazing when you think about it. so many different cultures were represented just with the cast alone. such a terrific ensemble.

there were also lots of great props from the show . . .

the dharma initiative rum that juliet & sawyer drank on the beach after the freighter blew up.

the dharma vw bus. SO COOL.

ben's alias passports, faraday's journal, the freighter satellite phone, sun's business cards.

desmond & penny. *sigh*

bonus? they were piping in music from the show in the background. it was so well done. i think i might have to go again before it's over!
